I want to learn how to paint?

I want to learn how to paint, watercolor, acrylic etc. I would consider myself a pretty good “draw-er” and I’m pretty precise with drawings. The thing is, i’ve never created any sort of drawing in paint. Does anyone know any good websites, or good advice on how to learn to paint. I know it sounds silly but I really want to learn, in the privacy of my own home, as a hobby.

That depends on what kind of painting you want to do, I always think its best to learn things on your own terms your own way because it is a very good way to develop your own style. I learned by just wanting to learn and then picking up some paints and a canvas and just going at it.
Before I knew it I was experimenting with inks, oils, melting crayons, broken sharpie drippings, collage, air brush.. it really opened a whole new world for me. I guess you will know its right if you blow your own mind.
Regardless I think painting is an expression of your soul, the important thing to remember is not to fear your own work and don’t compare it to anyone else.
Here is some interesting things I have found on you-tube that may help inspire you.
This guy on you tube is insane he paints with chocolate, ketchup, mascara and other strange things and he is able to capture this really creepy life likeness to his paintings.
This guy spray paints these alien other-worldly landscapes in mere moments with spray paint. I have tried this and it is almost as easy as he makes it seem and the results are so cool.
Here is even a video of my art when I first started doing it. You can see how many different styles I tried when beginning.
Is also a good place to check out different types of art.

Drawing is the key to painting, so if you are good at drawing, you are half way there to being able to paint. Check the website wetcanvas.com and those youtube sites. There are specific techniques to learn for whatever medium you decide to do. Pick a medium, acrylic is a good first to try. Practice, practice, practice.
You need to get help from a teacher or someone who can analyze and help you as you go along in the journey of learning to paint.

While being able to draw fairly well may be required for watercolor, detailed drawing it is not necessary for painting. A rough sketch for acrylic or oil painting will do in most cases. I am a self taught artist and i learned to paint with oils using library books, art magazines and alot of practice. I’ve done watercolor and acrylic but found that oils gave me the look and feel i wanted in my work. I look at websites, but only for tips and tricks. There are dvds you can buy that will go through lessons on painting from start to finish but they are expensive. My work can be checked out at hellosanantonio.com under artist name GUERRO1.
