amy m asked:

I need to know what the best books are out there that teach you how to paint and teach you techniques & tips & so on. I need a book for oil painting, watercolor, and acrylic. I have painted with all three but I really want to know more and get much much better. I need the books to be informative from how to pick papers, paints, brushes, to little tips that make a huge difference. Please help!

Two books would do well for both sides of your question.
Art and Visual Perception by Rudolph Arnheim and the techniques book by Ralph Meyer.

In my veiw the pigment only carries a gesture and color to the surface. Getting too involved in the technical end of painting will result in sterile, academic junk. Good brands of paint are all made to very high standards. Stick to good brands, don’t mix oil and water and you will be ok.

Check out book by north light books publishers, they have a lot of books about painting and drawing. I always found them to be a great inspiration.
